World Fair

2021

Graphic Design

I developed a thought-provoking postcard design for the "World Fair" with a jarring juxtaposition of vibrant colors and straightforward imagery. The front side utilized a photomontage, a technique where contrasting images are combined. This technique served a dual purpose: loud primary and secondary colors dominated the foreground, representing a facade of happiness and abundance. However, a dark, ominous mountain range loomed in the background, hinting at a post-apocalyptic reality beneath the cheerful surface. The copy mirrored this dissonance. "Attend the first World Fair. Trade Earth's resources. Prices start at a cost of a planet," it declared, offering a seemingly optimistic opportunity while simultaneously implying a dangerous hidden cost. This playful yet unsettling approach aimed to spark curiosity and a sense of unease, prompting viewers to question the true nature of the "World Fair." The back of the postcard reinforced this theme with a chilling message: "You are asked to come to the World Fair. Don't forget to leave your conscience at home. Only the ruthless survive. Godspeed." This direct statement, devoid of sentimentality, further emphasized the sinister undercurrent beneath the fair's colorful exterior. The overall design challenged viewers to look beyond the surface and contemplate the potential consequences of unbridled resource exploitation.
